Greetings , Will be taking a day trip from Salzburg by rental car to Hallstatt.
The map shows approach from the north. So we drive into town via 166 and then L547?
We then Park near town?
To get best photo shots of town, do we then take a cruise over to Obertraun and back?

Here is a link for parking in Hallstatt,http://www.hallstatt.net/parking-in-hallstatt/cars/. There are parking lots on the edge of town, P1 parking is for those who have hotel reservations and the rest for all others. I will be there in about 10 days, driving from Vilseck Germany and parking for a 1-night stay.
Another option for that "Kodak Moment" would be to rent an electric boat for 14 Euros, it gets you 1 hour on the lake and you can cruise up and down its shore line and snap away.
The road coming in from the north bypasses the town through a tunnel that comes out in Lahn (½ km) south of Hallstatt. There is a large parking lot there. The bus staton (ZOB) for Hallstatt is in Lahn and it's about a 10 minute trip over to Obertraun from there.
