Hallstatt and Dachstein

Hello there. I have planned a day Trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg. I would also like to see Dachstein after I am done seeing Hallstatt. Is it possible?
I plan to Arrive at Hallstatt by 9.:30. We plan to do the Skywalk and the salt mine. Do we still have time to go to Dachstein? How far is Dachstein from Hallstatt? We plan to return to Salzburg at around 6:30. Please kindly advise.

I don't know where Dachstein is, but I wouldn't rush Hallstatt. It is magical and you need to take your time to enjoy it. If you could spend the night that would be even better.

That would be a really long busy day. Recently we went from Salzburg to the Five Fingers Skywalk (glad we arrived early before the crowds), then to Hallstatt, then back to Salzburg. Left Salzburg at 9:00 and returned at 5:00. We spent three hours at the Skywalk, which was about the right amount of time since it's a good half hour each way getting up and down on the cable cars and at least 20 minutes to walk to the viewing platforms. Then we spent two hours in Hallstatt, which was not enough time (a good portion was having lunch). We also stopped at quite a few places on the ride out and back to take pictures.

I suppose you could fit in the salt mines, but I don't think you could also do Dachstein, which is another hour and a half from Hallstatt.

Dachstein is less than 15 Minutes from Halstatt by car.Take the Tram tote top of the Mountain and walk 20 Minute to Five Fingers Overlook.

That schedule would be too quick for me. I’m not sure you can visit salt mines, Hallstatt and Dachstein in that time allotment. The morning and evening is the magical time in this town before and after the day trippers. Try to stay one night.

A massif is a very large clump of fault-thrust mountain peaks, unusually common in Austria.. If you look S from Hallstatt, all mountain peaks you see at the end of the lake are the Dachstein Massif. The Krippenstein (5 Fingers) is one of the many peaks of the Dachstein.

The Michelin Guide says 5 hrs to visit 5 Fingers & the Ice Caves. Forget the salt mines, miles away.

The Michelin Guide says 2 days (by car) to tour the Dachstein. I think its 3-4 days.

The Michelin Guide rates sights on a scale of 0-3 stars there are two **, Gosausee & the Hunterkogle. Hallstatt, 5 Fingers, and Krippenstein are all * (first try, this came out weird. Its two stars). We once stayed one night in Hallstatt. Since then, we only stay overnight at Gosausee when we are in the area, and we will go out of our way to do that
