We are traveling to Hallstatt towards the end of August during our honeymoon. We're hoping to stay 2 nights at one these two lakefront hotels - Heritage.Hotel or Seehotel Gruner Baum. Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels? Would you recommend one over the other. Heritage Hotel was our top pick but seems to have quite a few negative reviews. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the Heritage Hotel (it looks very "upscale"). My experience was the same as Dick mentioned - I also stayed at Gasthof Simony and dined at Hotel Grüner Baum (the dinner was wonderful, but not cheap!). I also dined at Simony and the food there was also great. I believe you'd be comfortable at either one, so budget will probably be the deciding factor.

For someone on their honeymoon, I would suggest the Gruner Baum over the Hotel Simony. While the Simony has a certain shabby chic charm, it is short on luxuries, ie, we had thin worn towels and mold in the shower. The view is outstanding but so is the view at the much nicer Gruner Baum.
Have not stayed at the Heritage, but a friend stayed there not long ago, and had positive things to say. However, as others mentioned, it is a "new" hotel with a great view.
We've been to Hallstatt at least 6 times and have stayed once at the Simony, once at the Zauner and the remainder at the Gruner Baum.
