If you are looking for a great hotel option in the middle of Old Town Salzburg, we would suggest the Hotel Elefant. If you are driving, the hotel is inside the tourist-only pedestrian zone, so you need a code from your hotel to drive inside the zone. Once at the hotel, you can only drop off your bags (there is no hotel parking), and must drive to parking outside the zone. However, it is an easy walk from the underground lot inside the mountain. But, once you're at the hotel, everything is an easy walk. The hotel is just around the corner from Mozart's birthplace. It has two restaurants, a traditional sit-down restaurant and a burgers and sandwiches bar in its old wine cellar. The hotel is a member of the Best Western chain, so it has been modernized. Our room was a huge double, with a split bathroom and A/C. The hotel offers a large buffet breakfast, with both European and American-style breakfast choices. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
