Not sure how to pose this question but here goes......
Are there Heurige that have food that isn't a buffet?
Or a restaurant similar the Weinstube in Munich that serves good food with a real good wine list?
A cozy place in December that isn't a tourist trap.
Yes I/we are tourist but like to see locals enjoying a good meal.
I/we eat early though but not lunch, which is I understand, the main meal for many Viennese.
Staying at Kaertnerhof close to Stephansplatz but will jump on U-bahn if it's not too far.
We will be hitting many Christmas markets and hope to find good places to eat near them.
Thanks
Heurigen are not really winter places and they are all on the fringes of the city. The joy of a heurigen is eating outside in the fall. That said, you could check out heurigen-like restaurants, which serve wine and traditional food. I like Zum Alten Fassl (one of my favorite restaurants in the 5th district), Glacis Beisl (very good in the MQ), Heurigen Restaurant zur alten Weinpresse (actually a heuriger in the 3rd, been here and food was good), Feuerwehr Wagner (one of my favorite heuriger but maybe go with an Uber, really cosy), Mayer am Pfarrplatz (a real old classic).
