Doing the trip in May. Experienced European train traveler. Just want ideas for particularly scenic routes even if it takes the better part of a whole day. I know the Semmering route. What else?

If you don't mind to spend about 10 hours in a train, you may go the south route:
Innsbruck - Fortezza - Lienz - Villach - Vienna
Two train changes minimum.
It is a long route, you will see a lot of Austrian countryside, but there are parts of the route which are not particulary scenic.
