Getting to K+K Palais Hotel ,Vienna

My husband and I are reaching Wien Hbf from Salzburg and wanted to know what was the cheapest way to get to our hotel K+K Palais Hotel . I saw that there are two metro stops near my hotel Schwedenplatz and Schotterring .
1. I wanted to know is it easy to get to the metro stop from the railway station at Wien Hbf?
2. Would metro be my cheapest mode of transport ? I noticed a website saying its between 14- 17 Euro from station to hotel via taxi.
3. Also, when staying in Vienna , what would be a better way to travel ?

1) Yes, it's an easy direct trip on U1 from Hauptbahnhof to Schwedenplatz.

2) Taxi will be much more expensive than U-Bahn.

3) The public transport system in Vienna is very good, but the old city centre within the Ring is sufficiently small that you may find walking all that's necessary. Note that there are no trams within the Ring, only a few U-Bahn stations and two very circuitous and confusing minibus routes. Anywhere outside the Ring can be conveniently reached by U-Bahn, tram or bus.

When you arrive at Wien Hauptbahnhof you descend from the elevated platform down to street level and proceed through the concourse to the main hall. At the left side just before reaching the main hall there are the red ticket vending machines. There you buy your public transport passes, depending on how long you stay.

Then you descend from the middle of the main hall two more levels further down, follow the red signs to the U1 subway line for going to Schwedenplatz.

The hotel is about 600 yards to walk from U1 Schwedenplatz station.

For best orientation in Vienna I recommend the official map of the City of Vienna:
https://www.wien.gv.at/stadtplan/en/
Using the check boxes on the left you can superimpose a wealth of information, e.g. public transport, free Wi-Fi hotspots, etc.

We have stayed at the K & K Palais several times and you will have a nice view of the park.We have always driven to the hotel and then dropped the car at Hertz and walked or trammed back. The Metro is very efficient with trollies and bus service as well.

Thanks everybody for the fast replies.
wmt1 - The red ticket vending machines where we purchase the transport pass you mentioned. Is that a one day pass? Or the pass is just for the journey Hauptbahnhof to Schwedenplatz. Sorry if its very simple , I just wanted to be clear.

The ticket vending machines are equipped with a touch screen (including language selection) and will provide you with all kinds of tickets. Just buy what you want. If you pay by credit card you may be asked for your PIN code.
