Garmisch to Salzburg via Munich or Innsbruck

How doable is taking the train from Garmisch to Innsbruck to Salzburg? We will be staying in Garmish (3 N) then Salzburg (3N) then onto Munich (3N). I did not necessarily want to go back to Munich to get to Salzburg. Would the route from Garmisch to Salzburg via Innsbruck be more scenic? I don't mind if it takes more time.

Thanks

The route from Garmisch via Seefeld and Innsbruck to Salzburg is by far more scenic than going back to Munich and then to Salzburg.

In fact, the train ride itself is also shorter, but due to the layover of about 50 minutes in Innsbruck the total travel time is about 35 minutes longer.

While it may not be the fastest or automatic suggestion on train schedules, you can design your route by specifying that want to add a stopover/midpoint/via point in Innsbruck. This doesn't necessarily mean getting off the train there, though in practice you would. You can of course also search each leg separately.

Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the Deutsche Bahn train schedule link and tips for using it.

Thanks, everyone. I can now plan to take the train through Innsbruck. This will work great for my itinerary.

Please just be sure to purchase your ticket from Deutsche Bahn or OeBB and NOT RailEurope.
