FYI—Austria Cow Parades Aug. and Sept.

Hi everyone—

I’m doing some more research for my Sept. trip and thought I’d pass along some links that have info. on the upcoming cow parades. I was super excited to see one scheduled for Sept. 17th in Kufstein as I’ll be in Innsbruck then and it’s only a half hour train ride. My sister and I will be there. With (cow) bells on. 😊

Wow, I never knew there was such a thing as cow floral headdresses. It's like a cow mardi gras!

I'm currently trying to persuade my husband to go! Who'd a thunk? This has to be the sweetest thing and a local event.

My husband and I were in Austria a few years ago at the end of September/beginning of October. We walked at night in the small villages just to hear the cow bells of cows that we couldn't see. There was a wonderfully peaceful feeling of being far away from it all!

I have attended these events in the Alps. Note that there will be road closures. If you drive, arrive early. It's better to use public transit.

Hi. I saw the cow parade in Mutters near Innsbruck in 2011. It was a short bus ride but a world away. On the small side. Cows posed for photos afterwards in their paddocks. And there was a local fest with beer and wurst. Whenever I think of returning in autumn, I look up the cow events. Enjoy!

Carrie,

Thanks for the information; I've always wanted to witness the Almabtrieb cattle drives.

I was lucky enough to see them come down from the high meadows in Sept 2019 in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland - It was an amazing parade. Something to remember for the rest of my life (and I usually hate/fear cows) But put flowers on their head, and I am a big fan.
Definitely see it if you get a chance. I got some marvelous photos.
