From Vienna to Prague on Oct. 5, 2024

Hi, My husband and I start a RS tour on Oct. 6, 2024 (next Sunday) in Prague and are visiting Vienna a couple days on our own beforehand. We need to travel from Vienna to Prague on Oct. 5 and I found a one way transfer Sidetrip tour that sounds lovely, but no one but the two of us have signed up so we are facing having it canceled. On the off chance there is someone else looking for a transport on that day from Vienna to Prague, let me know and I can provide details. The cost for two people is €190.

Maybe it is silly to even consider the private transport though? It stops at a couple of places and while I think the tour will be informative and fun; however, perhaps the train would be just as enjoyable? My desire is to see as much and to learn as much as we can!

We're very excited about starting the RS Prague - Budapest tour the following day.

We took the train from Vienna to Prague. It was easy. That is what I would do.

Do you have your dates correct for anyone interested?

11 October isn't a Sunday, next Sunday as in 9 days time, will be 6 October, so you are travelling on 5 October, potentially.

Thanks so much for the correction on dates. I've edited my post. I think I need more coffee! So embarrassed.

The best way is going by train from Vienna to Prague, a ride of 4 hours. There is a train about every hour. Prices start at about 25 Euros, depending on the time of the train, the operator and the website for booking.

RailJet trains can be booked via https://www.cd.cz/en/ or via https://www.oebb.at/en/ (currently more expensive).
RegioJet trains can be booked here: https://regiojet.com/

Find a departure time which suits for you and compare the prices. In any case don't forget to buy seat reservations.

Do not choose the local train connection which might show up in the time table (a ride of more than 5 hours).

Thanks very much for the kind replies. I will take them to heart. It is so nice to be able to get advice from people who have been there and are experienced.

RailJet trains can be booked via ....

Dont get too hung up on RailJet (RJ) as the EuroCity (EC) trains are often just as fast.
In this case the fastest RailJet is 4:01 while the fastest EuroCity is ............ well ................ 4:01.
The slowest RailJet making the run is 4:06 and the slowest Eurocity making the run is 4:03.

As far as the quality of the train, I have been on both recently and really neither was to die for.

Find a 4:00 hour trip with times and price that work for you.

UNLESS, you want to see something between the two cities, then look at the DayTrip link I posted. $$$ ching ching ching, but has been worth it the couple of times I used them.

If you wanted to see Cesky Krumlov, you could look into CK Shuttle - door to door Vienna to Prague, including a stop, would be a little more than the price you mentioned. But the train is fast and easy.
