Free parking in Vienna and Salzburg

Anyone found a hotel in Salzburg or Vienna that is a great location and has free parking? I am thinking that to get both we will have to pay for the parking.....trying to research and it looks like if you need free parking for a rental car you will have to be staying outside the city centers. Our usual habit is to park our car for the 3-4 days driving through and walk these cities and enjoy seeing them on foot. I am also seeing where it is hard to find AC at these same locations......we weathered a heat wave a few years ago in Paris but thankfully had AC in our hotel and it saved us.....the minute someone says you do not need it another heat wave shows up and you are so glad you have it!
Thanks so much for your help!

Be prepared to pay and pay big to park in Salzburg. Even the Park and Rides (very low cost in the rest of Europe) are €15 a day.

Can't tell you about Vienna. In Salzburg we stayed outside of town at a guesthouse (Haus Ballwein) with free parking. We took the 15 minute bus trip into town every day and did not move the car. The bus stop was in front of the guesthouse.

Free parking in Vienna - forget it.

Big hotels (e.g. Hilton, Marriott, Intercontinental) have own garages, but you will be charged.

Public garages in or near the center charge between €20 and €50 per day. The cheapest garage near the center - as to my knowledge - is the garage under the MQ (Museumsquartier - Museum Quarter) which charges €14 per day.

The real cheap garages are a bit outside the center, but always located at a metro (subway) station with fast access to the center. There are 10+ of them, marked "P+R" (park & ride) and charge €3.40 per day.

If you are visiting Hellbrunn Palace, the cost for parking there is reasonable. From there you can walk into town along the river path (about an hour), or catch a bus fairly close by on the main road.

We stayed outside the city center in the Favoriten district and the apartment said there was "free street parking -- if you can find it" but suggested a local underground parking garage. Since we did not have a car, I didn't investigate the garage prices.

This is my hotel of choice in Vienna , and have stayed here often . Clean as a whistle , included lavish breakfast , Air Conditioned and parking ( ten euro / day for guests ) behind the hotel ( private car park .) Exceptionally quiet , and a short walk or ten minute U Bahn ride to the center - look here - https://www.classic-hotelwien.at/en/
