Fortress Hohensalzburg Christmas market

Has anyone been to the Christmas Market at the Fortress Hohensalzburg in Salzburg? What is it like?

I mean, it is worth going up to see it, but the main one is the one you rally want to prioritize.

The fortress Christmas market is small. If you are tight on time, it is totally skippable. If you haven't been to Salzburg, the fortress is more impressive than its market.

We were there in December 2024. Totally skippable. Yet the tour of Hohensalzburg is well worth doing.

We were there last year. We didn't tour the inside of the fortress, but went up for the view and considered the market a nice little pit stop to grab a snack and a drink. I definitely wouldn't go up for just the market, as it's tiny, but if you're going up anyway, it's worth a few minutes detour.

If you're Sound of Music fans, I highly recommend walking back on the way down and taking a detour to Nonnberg Abbey. It was a highlight of our day.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you all for the info! We are planning on touring the Fortress, but I didn't know they had a Christmas market as well. Glad to know it's skippable if we are tight on time.

If you are touring the fortress, it will take all of 5 minutes to walk through its Christmas Market. If you have time, it's not a bad idea to grab a beverage and admire the views from the fortress as you enjoy a warm drink.
