Flughafentransfer to Munich?

Has anybody any advice about using the Flughafentransfer service from Salzburg to the Munich airport? I know it's spendy, but probably cheaper than an overnight in Munich.

Betty, are you considering this because of the timing of your flight? Trains start as early as 4:00 a.m. at Salzburg to get you to Munich Airport about 6:15, with a connection at Munich, but planning around waking up early and traveling that distance before a trans-Atlantic flight would make me nervous. I assume you'll pay a similar price for a hotel in either Salzburg or Munich, unless you have a special deal in Salzburg.

To all: Betty's earlier thread on taking trains the reverse direction is at https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/germany/getting-from-airport-to-train-station.

Yes, I don't want the stress of having to leave my Salzburg hotel, which is in the outskirts, for an early train. I suppose if I had a taxi booked to pick me up and take me to the train station, instead of taking local buses, it wouldn't be so stressful. Have you ever used the Flughafentransfer service?

I've never used Flughafentranfer, nor have I ever gotten myself in a situation where I needed to use it. There are less expensive alternatives if you plan properly.

It looks like Flughafentransfer's fare is 61€ for Salzburg to Munich airport, and that's on top of what you would pay for your hotel in Salzburg. I would recommend going by train the evening before to Freising, staying there, and taking the 20 minute bus (2,70€) to MUC in the morning. Hotels in Freising are probably less expensive than in Salzburg. I have on two occasions stayed in Freising before an early moring's flight out of MUC.

But, what time is your flight out of Munich? What's the price per night for your place in Salzburg? Are you commited to staying in that hotel, or can you leave a day early to go to Munich.

Lee, My flight isn't until 11:50 so I think I would prefer to stay put in my Salzburg B&B rather than do a one-nighter in Munich or Freising. I can take a train out of Salzburg around 7:00-ish and make it in time, don't you think? Thanks, Betty

There are two regional connections leaving Salzburg before 7:00 (at 6:46 and 6:58). Both get you to MUC at 9:35, giving you 2h15m at the airport before your flight. That (2h15m) is about what I allow at the airport when coming from Freising. However, coming from Freising, it's a 20 minute bus trip; the trip from Salzburg is about 2¾ hours. I once came into FRA from a town in the Black Forest for an early afternoon flight, a two hour trip by streetcar and ICE, but I had over 3 hours after arrival before my flight. I had time for lunch; if I had been delayed, I would have missed lunch but probably made the flight. Coming in from Salzburg you have no cushion. It's very makeable, but I would feel uncomfortable telling you to do it.

There is also an IC connection leaving Salzburg at 6:43, getting you to MUC at 8:55. It leaves a little earlier and costs more, but gives you almost 3 hours before your flight There is also food service on the IC.

BTW, it looks like all of the train changes at Munich Ost are from track 6 to track 5, which is cross platform, and you have at least 7 minutes.
