First time Vienna this July

Hi, it will be our first time in Vienna this July. We are just starting to look at accommodations. Where would be a safe convenient place to stay for 2 travelers? We are open to hotels or condotels. We would do apartment rentals but it will possibly be only 6 nights. Location and safety would be very important. Thanks a lot.

I stayed at Classic Hotel Wien in July a couple of years ago and was very pleased. Good location a couple of blocks from the metro but also walking distance to main tourist area if you're a walker (maybe about 2km). Nice neighborhood with some restaurants and shops. Very nice and accommodating staff, elevator, A/C,etc, breakfast buffet. It was a little higher class than I normally go for but they offered a special - pay for 3 nights get 4th night free - so it worked out for my budget. I have recommended it before and others have enjoyed it as well.

My favorite hotel that I've ever stayed and at fairly reasonable, too is Hotel Austria, about five minutes from St. Stephens. Super nice attentive people, EXTREMELY extensive breakfast buffet, with waitress served coffee/tea and champagne. I've stayed there twice. I found Austria very safe and this particular location is safe as well. http://www.hotelaustria-wien.at/en/

If you look for an apartment rental then I can recommend this:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1027443

Relations and friends stayed already three times there during the last two years. Read the description and the reviews of other guests. The apartment is perfectly equipped, has excellent access to public transport, and the hosts were very helpful. Safety is not a point of concern in Vienna.

If you could provide your exact dates, I'd be happy to plug them in to booking.com and make some recommendations for you. Generally, for location I would stick with districts 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8. For safety - all of Vienna is safe. It is just that some areas are prettier than others.

Hi,

I have been in Vienna this time since Sunday, have a few more days to go but be advised that safety concerns you might have are groundless. First question ought to be is "why should it not be safe.?" Would that affect your decision to go? There are tons of international tourists here...Russians, US, Chinese, Italians, etc, etc.

There are police patrols or security with Sicherheit (yellow jackets) on the back or "Security" (orange jackets) on the back almost everywhere, police in groups of 3 to 5; never have I seen them so frequently as on this trip, and I have been in Vienna every year since 2009 (minus 2013) sometime from May to July. Certainly at the train stations, Wien Hbf and Westbahnhof plus at the famous sites...just a very obvious and visible presence.

Hi, maybe my word ‘safety’ was wrong- rather location and convenience.
We will in Vienna on the first week of July. Thanks.

Well, what you can most likely expect in Wien the first week in July is that the temperature will be 78 to 85F,..ie, the pretty warm to hot range. Still, it is good time to be in Wien. Easier said than done...don't let yourself be defeated by the heat., ie anywhere from 26C to 32C or more.

@ Emily....Thanks but my week long stay this time was "marred" by one of those nuisance summer colds., still saw new sights, always exciting to be back.
