I (solo traveler) will be flying into Vienna (first time in Vienna) from Paris in the middle of May. I will get in at 2:15p so I wont be checking into my hotel until around 3:30 at the earliest. I will be staying next to the Naschmarkt. What should I do with my first half day? The Rick Steves' Audio Walking Tour? I will be there for an additional two full days.
USC_SKH: We did both the walking tour and the Ringstrasse tram tour. As I recall, the walking tour took several hours with the sightseeing, people watching, listening to street buskers, etc. We did the St. Stephen's cathedral [Stephansdom] tour in the middle of the walking tour. All in all, a good way to spend an afternoon. The Ringstrasse tram tour helped orient us to the area and identified the locations of several museums and other areas of interest. In any event, enjoy your visit and be safe.
What day of the week? If you could give a date, even better!
I'll be flying in May 15th; a Sunday. I know the 15th and 16th are Pentecost and Whit Monday. I'm not sure if everything is closed on these two days. If these are major holidays then I may switch around my itinerary and head to Prague first and then Vienna.
I spent a half day on a Sunday alone last September. I had lunch at Figlmuller - no reservations so at their second location around the corner, then walked to the Albertina and toured it, then walked around outside and decided to go into the Naturhistoriches Musuem. Of course, no way to see everything there! My family and I spent a further 3 hours there in December and I am a big fan. I ended my evening with some Sacher Torte at the Café Sacher. There was no need for dinner after that lunch! I bought a whole torte to bring home as I was flying out the next morning. It was a fun afternoon.
