final train question

Family of 4 traveling from Salzburg to Murren June 23. I have purchased 8 day Swiss passes(which I still have not received) and have learned from the forum that when we depart Salzburg we will only need to purchase a ticket to the border and that the ticket operator will book us on through to Murren using our Swiss passes. What site should I look at to see timetables/prices for the leg of the journey to the border and do we need to buy these tickets on the first day we arrive in Salzburg or can we just do it the morning we are leaving? Thanks

www.sbb.ch will have all the schedules including from Salzburg to Switzerland. With the Railjet train from Salzburg you should enter Switzerland at Buchs. If you want to save money, you can buy the tickets on-line now (nonrefundable) and print them at home.

I agree with Sam, buy your ticket from Salzburg to Buchs (the changeover station between the two railway companies) as soon as possible to get the cheapest prices. You can buy tickets on the ÖBB (Austrian Railways) website ( www.oebb.at ). Buy print-at-home tickets as these are the most convenient. You can always buy tickets at the station on the day of travel, but that costs more.

"the ticket operator will book us on through to Murren using our Swiss passes" - not quite sure what you mean by this, there is no "booking" to do, the concept does not exist. You have your Swiss pass, which means you can just get on any trains for which the pass is valid.

Oh OK, that is good advice. I will look at the timetable and order 4 tickets from Salzburg to Buchs to save us some money. I imagine then on the day we depart we do not need to go to ticket office just find the correct track and get on board with the tickets I have printed from home and our Swiss passes- if they ever arrive! I must have misunderstood the person who told me that in Salzburg the ticket sales person would book us to Murren, they maybe meant assign seats. I understand with Swiss pass there is no need to book just get on board.

I looked at both sites and the non-refundable price at sbb is 135chf, oebb 96.00E. I chose Buchs SG as the destination station in the drop down box, is that the correct one? Also, I guess I assumed we would just ride from Salzburg to the Swiss border and change trains to the Swiss system but Buchs is a 4 hour trip into Switzerland. Thank you for your advice, booking the train travel for our trips has always been the most stressful thing for me!

Buchs SG is the correct station.

No need to change trains at Buchs. The train from Salzburg goes directly to Zurich, Buchs is just a short stop en-route.
You will use one and the same train with 2 tickets: First the Salzburg - Buchs ordinary ticket, then Swisspass.

At Zurich change to a train to Interlakern, then to another train to Mürren.

BTW, how old are your children?
If under 15, then the cheapest availale price is just 48 EUR.

kids are 20 and 18. I was just about to book our tickets but was looking into possibly departing Salzburg on the 9:56 train instead of 7:56 and I see that a Sparschiene osterreich ticket is only available for the earlier departure time and not for the 9:56. Is there any way this pricing might become available if I keep checking back, or is it not likely to change and we should just take the earlier train at a cheaper rate?

Usually it doesn't get cheaper, if you wait. Better buy tickets for the 7h56-train now.

Ok now I am getting frustrated. I decided to have one more look at the sbb site to compare their price for the 9:56 train but I cannot get the site to translate into English. Any suggestions? I just wanted to check the Swiss price on the later train departure.
