Feedback on my Bavaria and Austria itinerary

We are planning a trip for September, my husband and two grown sons. We have a 9 night trip (kids don't have lots of vacation time), arriving in Munich early and traveling exclusively by train/bus. We should be in Mittenwald by noon on day 1.

My husband and sons mostly want the amazing vistas, unique mountain experiences, and some hiking. I love those things and a charming old town. I think this plan covers all of that. This is the breakdown of the trip (# of nights in parentheses):

  • Mittenwald (2) with a day trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen to see Zugspitze
  • Seefeld (1)
  • Zell am See (3) On travel to Zell am See, stopover in Innsbruck for the day then continue to Zell am See.
  • Two days around Zell am See (Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn )
  • Salzburg (2) with a day trip to Werfen, a Sound of Music bike tour, other landmarks.
  • Munich (1) to prepare for departure

Feedback:
I feel pretty confident based on my research that this is doable; if I’m wrong, please let me know!

We were in Germany in March and there was some work on the trains/tracks that forced us to use a bus around Stuttgart. Is there somewhere that reports disruptions ahead of time so we can plan? DB and OBB.

I am wondering why the one night in Seefeld. It is only about 10 miles from Mittenwald, about the same distance away as Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Packing up and moving to another location is time consuming. Why not visit as a day trip, as you are doing with G-P.

That's a good point about not staying overnight in Seefeld. I guess I was thinking about how we'd avoid backtracking and we'd be making progress around our loop. And by staying where we spend the day I don't have to pay attention to train schedules at the end of the day (which feels a little freer). Definitely could stay in Mittenwald another night, though hotels are pricier there. And our next day travel will be a little shorter...
