Farm or B&B Accommodation Outside Salzburg

I have three nights in/around Salzburg and am looking to stay somewhere outside the city, as I will have my own vehicle, desire to spend time biking and hiking, and will have just come from spending time in city life in Vienna. Do you have recommendations for a B&B or farm? I have looked at some in Moosstrase and Oberndorf thus far.

We are two people looking for inexpensive accommodation, $80 and less per night total. The plan is to take public transport into Salzburg one day and do toursity things like the Sound of Music bike tour, walking around downtown and seeing Mozart places, etc. And the other days we want to spend exploring nature, so ideally we will have a location to drive to in our vehicle or (even better?) we will stay at a guesthouse that has bikes available or quick access to hiking and cycling trails.

Check out Haus Ballwein http://www.haus-ballwein.at/en_our-house.htm. I stayed there a few years ago, and it was generally in that price range. There's a bus stop right in front, and the bus goes directly into town. It's on the edge of Salzburg, so it's easy to drive out of town from there. Frau Ballwein is a lovely person. Her house is immaculate, and she serves a wonderful breakfast.

Hi Molly,

Our favorite is the Pension Mayringerlehen in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden. This is a 30 to 40 minute drive from/to Salzburg.
Maybe that's too far out for you? The alpine setting is very scenic. The bus stop for the bus to Berchtesgaden (which is 10 minutes away) and then to Salzburg (less than 30 min. away) is less than a 5 minute walk from the pension and I believe it is free while you stay there.

We stayed in 10/06, 10/07 and 9/09:

If you are interested in hiking, why not hike to a hut and stay there for an authentic Austrian experience in the mountains? Oodles of choices for places in beautiful settings that serve up hot food and provide a simple room. Prices are standardized at 41 Euros for non Alpen Verein members for half pension in the Lager (like a bunk room) but most also have private zimmer as well. Better yet, just join for the discount and the great worldwide rescue insurance.

You can search here by location and they have links to the huts' own web pages.
