Family Twixmas holiday in Vienna!! Four kids 14-7yrs old, HELP!

Twixmas in Vienna! This is our first time traveling to Vienna with a family of six, four children ages 14 to 7, from Dec 27th to Jan 3rd. We're looking to possibly take the train to Salzburg for the first couple of days in Europe, ending up in Vienna around Dec 31st to Jan 3rd! Any itinerary tidbits, restaurants (foodies), kid fun, and Christmas market help would be greatly appreciated!

The Christmas markets in Vienna close on 23 DEC this year.

Take the kids to the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum; all kinds of neat military stuff. Also to the Imperial Armory in the Kunsthistoriches Museum.

There will be a big fireworks display the night of the 31st. Ask your hotel concierge about where to see it.

My wife and I were in Vienna and Salzburg during your time period this past year. Loved it. Although several of the Vienna markets are closed after Christmas, a couple transition into New Years markets (no difference, they just haven't packed up yet.) The Schonbrunn Palace market is open and the place is a must see, as is the small market outside the Belvedere Palace. And you must attend the Silvesterpfad New Years Eve. Just hang onto your kids, mobs of people walking along the route. With so many musical groups on the different stages to choose from, chances are the kids will find something they like. And the waltz lessons with hundreds of other people is a once-in-a-lifetime event. The Salzburg Christmas market in the central square adjacent to the Cathedral is also open after Christmas and you can even enjoy the ice skating rink set up in Mozartplatz which would be quite the diversion for you and the kids. A trip up to the castle also would be well worthwhile. Hope you get some snow!!!!!!

The Museum of Natural History (NHM) and the Museum of Technology (TMW) are the best choice for kids of different ages.
