Hi!
My husband, 6 year old daughter and I will be visiting family in Salzburg this summer and I’d really like to spend some time hiking in the mountains. But…I don’t know where to start! We’re looking for beautiful, short hikes that might have an alm or hut to visit at the end…or even a family friendly place to stay. We’re not planning on renting a car but not opposed to it. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!
There is a great short family-friendly hike at Königssee near Berchtesgaden. Catch the boat to the Salet stop at the far side of the lake, take the short walk to Obersee, admire the view across that small lake, hike along the right side of that lake, and then hike through a gorgeous Alpine meadow on to Röthbach Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Germany. On your way back, stop at the Alm on the Waterfall side of Obersee for a snack/drink. Along the way, meet the locals — the cows who graze the alpine meadow during the summer.
