End of August Trip to Germany/Austria

Hi everyone,
My boyfriend and I are planning to travel to Cologne (Koln), Germany the last week of August/first week of September to visit his family. We have about 8-10 days, and were planning to maybe take a train from Cologne to Munich, and then drive towards Austria/Innsbruck area for some hiking and beer gardens. :) We both work in health care and have been fully COVID vaccinated since January 2021.

My questions for you--

  1. My research thus far has been inconclusive, but-- is there any confirmation that COVID restrictions (ie closing of bars, restaurants, beer gardens, etc) are on the horizon? I know, I know-- it's something that's re-evaluated on a day by day basis. Just want to know what the general consensus is.

  2. Has anyone heard of or had a difficult time driving across the boarder from Germany to Austria? and back to Germany from Austria? Assuming its possible right now?

Any information regarding the above would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance.

Being fully vaccinated you should not face any problems or restrictions beyond some mask-wearing mandates.
There are border controls between Germany and Austria, but you are free to cross the border in either direction.

But as you say, the rules may change depending on the spreading of the Delta variant of the virus, so stay tuned.

What about trains from Austria to Munich? Any kind of checkpoints or paperwork at Salzburg station?

Do it while you can. If possible have your CDC data transfered to a yellow International Certificate of Vaccination. That will make things easier with waiters, control etc.

That sounds like a wonderful idea. My question is: how do you transfer info on the CDC white card to the little yellow booklet?
