Easter time in Austria

I travel every year for my birthday and next year, Holy Saturday falls on my birthday. What kinds of things are closed between Good Friday and Easter Monday? Especially in Vienna/Hallstatt/Salzburg - will stores, restaurants, museums be open? I usually try to pick something extra fun to do on my actual birthday too (one year it was a cooking class in Paris, another it was the tulip festival in Amsterdam), will I be able to find something to do, not only on a Saturday but Holy Saturday (possibly in Hallstatt)? Also - will train service be limited at that time? I'll be counting on the train to get between cities, rather than driving. Thanks for any advice!

In Austria (and in Catholic countries), Easter is celebrated on Monday. Therefore, shops will be closed on Easter Monday. Shops are always closed on Sundays, whether it is Easter Sunday or not. Transportation will run on a reduced schedule on Monday, but not to a point that it would affect your movements. Museums and restaurants will be open on Monday, but check websites just to be certain.

It is worth noting that there are Easter Markets. In Vienna, there are two which you should visit, which shut down on Easter Sunday - 1) Easter Market at Freyung in the first district where they sell thousands of hand decorated eggs and 2) Easter Market at Schonbrunn with crafts, food and a great back drop.
