Dürer exhibit at Albertina in Vienna

Excited to be going to Vienna for a few days before a riverboat cruise. Just saw that the Albertina has a major Dürer exhibit on. Any hints about the Albertina? Do we need to buy tickets online or is it not generally crowded? We’ll be at the Pension Suzanne within walking distance. We have been in Vienna before, but not been to the Albertina. Also, anyone familiar with the cafe there?

We were just in Vienna a few weeks ago and went to the Albertina. It is a fairly small museum, no lines (at least the afternoon we were there). The café is your typical museum café. Café Hawelka is about ten minute walk away; much more character and awesome strudel. The Hotel Sacher is across the street if you want the "famous" overpriced Sacher Tort.

Sorry , I can't address the cafe issue , but have been to the Albertina a number of times . Depending on the day and time of your visit , you could encounter heavy attendance , special shows , like the Durer , are noted for that . I have encountered that to some degree at The Clark . As a side comment , one of my favorite places to sit with a book and coffee , is Tunnel . We will be seeing the Durer when we arrive in Vienna , later this month .

Hi Stephen. I’m a docent at the Clark. And you’re right, our summer shows this year were very heavily attended! Maybe we’ll see you in Vienna.

The Dürer exhibition just opened last week, so at the moment there is a lot of interest. It can never be bad to buy tickets in advance, so you need not to queue at the ticket counter.

On Wednesdays anf Fridays the exhibition is open until 9pm. At previous visits I noticed that after about 7pm the the crowd shrinks significantly.

On certain days there are special guided evening tours outside the regular opening hours.

I purchased my ticket for my visit in early December. You can print it at home or have it on your phone or tablet when you arrive at the museum. Note, the ticket is good for one visit during the year following the date of purchase. I did not have to input info on my projected date of visit. There appears to be no timed entry.

If I have missed something, please share. Looking forward to this exhibit. It was one of the reasons I booked my trip.

We visited the Albertina during an Edvard Munch special exhibit. It was amazing! They did a wonderful job on the displays, flow and audio guide. It was one of the best exhibits I've been to. The museum was not empty, but not crowded that day. No lines to purchase tickets, etc. They had lockers to put things if you needed. We were visiting the week before Christmas that year and had Vienna museum passes.

We are returning this December, and I am very excited to visit the Albertina to see Durer works. We purchased tickets online for this visit. I also noted that they are not timed (like the ones we bought for the Caravaggio exhibition at the Kunst) and the tickets are good any day.

I can't weigh in on the cafe, but there are several places nearby to pop into after your visit.
