Driving from Fussen Germany to Hallstatt Austria, driving time & mid-point

Looking for advice about finding a mid-point location to stay in route from Fussen, Germany to Hallstatt, Austria, I would like to break up the drive and stay in a scenic location. I'm also having difficulty finding a place to stay within Hallstatt. I found an air bnb location about 45 minutes north on Lake Traunsee. Some posts say that Hallstatt can be done in a day while others suggest longer times. If possible, I'd like to stay overnight, hotel recommendations?

Also, when I check google.maps, it gives me a different estimated driving time between the points. I don't know if 3.5 hours is a realistic estimate? When I drove in Germany previously, occasionally it longer than the estimated time. Since I will be on unfamiliar roads, I don't want to be driving for extended periods of time.

Many thanks for advice in advance.

Berchtesgaden for Hiltler's Eagles Nest & lunch on top
...it's an easy drive-did it a few years ago. Hallstatt-one

Hi,

3:30 seems quite unrealistic. If going by Munich, Prien/Chiemsee would be a nice place to stop, plus "Mad" King Ludwig's Herrenchiemsee Palace (Neues Schloss) is right there. Maybe the best interior of his three creations (Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee). If going via Innsbruck, Worgl, Lofer, to Berchtesgaden, allow about 3:30 to 4 hours total. Very nice drive with some terrific alpine scenery.
