Our itinerary continues to evolve. The current plan following 4 nights in Vienna is below:
May 24: in the morning pick up a rental car in Vienna and drive to Mauthausen, then to St. Wolfgang or St. Gilgen for 2 nights. The second day should allow us some time to visit the Salzkammergut including Hallstat.
May 26: drive to Hall via Kaprun, spend 1 night in Hall.
May 27: drive to Salzburg, drop car, stay 2 nights
May 29: train to Munich for 4 nights
Is this a scenic route between St. Gilgen and Hall? Is a detour to Lienz advisable? It looks like I could take the A10 south then route 100 to Lienz. Going back to Hall has a couple of options, 107 or 108. The 107 is slower but puts us back to Zell am See and we can head west on the 168.
