Drive from Hallstatt to Vienna

Looks like we will have the option in a few weeks as we drive from Hallstatt to Vienna to drive through Melk and visit the town there.....anyone done this that can advise that we take this route? Thanks

That area along the Danube is a great place to stay a couple of nights, if you have time. With less time, I still would go ahead with the drive-through, plus Melk Abbey, considering that to be one of the benefits of driving, and not any slower than alternate driving routes (per Google Maps). I did that drive and stayed in Melk and visited the Abbey,then took a boat from Melk to Krems and train back to Melk.It is a beautiful area.We also took the Tran from Melk to St Poelten and another train to Marienzel which is a Catholic pilgrimage site with great scenery along the route.We then drove from Melk to Vienna and turned our car in and spent time in Vienna.
