I'm just curious; i have tickets to a concert of the Vienna Philharmonic playing at the Konzerthaus on September 30th, the tickets dont mention any kind of dress code, but i assume its a good idea to dress nice. Does anyone know if suits are mandatory for men? Im traveling rather light on my trip from the States and was planing on going in a dress shirt , dress slacks and shoes and a tie, but skipping a suit jacket. Would that be acceptable?
Yes, would be fine; it is not so formal anymore. Most men would wear a jacket, I guess, but it is not necessary as you are dressed nicely (no jeans, no t-shirt).
Here is what the website of the Konzerthaus has to say about dress:
"Dress for a performance? In general, the answer is «yes, please»! While Wiener Konzerthaus applies no dress code, it may be remarked that thorough enjoyment of a performance is also heightened by the guests' advance preparation — dressing for the occasion. If dress matches the concert – be it classic, jazz, or experimental – it heightens the experience for the other guests."
