Does the Swiss Pass lose benefits when in combination with another ?

Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best solution for train travel in Austria and Switzerland. The Switzerland Pass looks unbeatable for access to everything. My question is if we do a 2 country combo pass of Austria and Switzerland do we lose all the secondary features of the Swiss Pass such as free/discounted extras such as travel on boats, gondolas and museum tickets? The combo pass is much less than buying each country separately but the savings diminish once you start losing all those perks.

If you post exactly what travel you anticipate in each country, people can give you answers. Whether or not you will benefit from a pass depends on how much travel you will be doing (and for the Swiss-only pass, how many covered museums you plan to see).

The two-country pass is a Eurail pass, not a Swiss Pass. So you do lose some of the benefits of a Swisspass. Are you sure you need a pass for travel in Austria?

Sasha is correct that a Swiss Travel Pass and a Eurail pass for two or more countries are separate products with separate lists of benefits and coverage. Both passes cover lake boats on the counted travel days. Both passes had changes this year, so info in printed guidebooks is out of date. See the comparisons listed at http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/switzerland-rail-passes.

You do have the option to buy a separate Austria pass, or if you don't have as much travel in that country, then perhaps a specific ticket with advance discount.
