We will be taking a side trip to eisenstadt in july. Also considering a visit to burg Forchenstein. Is there a bus we can take from Eisenstadt to the castle>

I checked on the ÖBB website, and it looks like there's a bus connection every half hour or so from the Domplatz in Eisenstadt, with a transfer in Mattersburg.
The bus stop for Burg Forchenstein is right by the castle. However, plan your trip carefully, because the best part of the castle, the weapons collection, is only accessible by rather infrequent guided tours, most of which are only offered in German. If you need to kill time, a reptile zoo sits a stone's throw away, if you're into that sort of thing.
