We are planning to be in Vienna and saw how expensive the hotels were because it coincides with the Danube Island Festival.
Has anyone experienced being in Vienna during this festival? How crazy does Vienna get during this festival? Should we change our dates? Thanks, Susan

I’ve experienced it 12 times as that’s how long I’ve lived here.
Because the festival happens on the Donauinsel, which is far from the center of town, you really don’t realize anything is going on, unless you make the trek over there. We often don’t even realize it’s happened.

"Far" in Viennese terms, i.e. a 10 minutes ride with the subway (U1, red line).

Far, as in very far from where a tourist would ever go. 10 minutes on the ubahn, but several kilometers by foot. Honestly, you wouldn’t know it was happening.
