Danube cruise - skip excursion to Cesky Krumlov to cruise Wachau Valley?

We will be cruising Mid-April if that helps....

I just read that some people recommend staying on the boat and enjoying the view instead of visiting CK. We usually don't go to the same area twice so which one in (your educated opinions) is better to see in the long run?

Thanks!

I haven't been to Cesky Krumslov yet so this may not be helpful but if you go down the Donau through the Wachau Valley it should be at the height of the special apricot (marillen) blooming season, weather permitting.

I was on an Avalon Danube cruise last April - and elected to visit Cesky Krumlov (at considerable expense as it wasn't an 'included excursion'). I can't comment on the beauty of the Danube view (that I missed), but I can report that CK is a wonderful place.

For me it would depend on what's involved. If the Wachau Valley cruise is just being on a boat admiring the scenery, then I would choose to go to CK (it is wonderful). However, if the cruise of the Wachau Valley includes Melk Abbey and maybe a stop in Durnstein, then I would go with that over CK. I loved both so it's hard to make a choice.

Everybody likes different stuff. C.K. is magical. Wachau Valley is the most beautiful part of the Danube cruise. Hard to advise. Look at pictures on internet (google) and decide yourself what you would rather see.

Thanks!
Melk and Durnstein are the day before the optional excursion to CK on our cruise. I appreciate the replies!

In that case I would go to CK, especially if you don't think you'll get back to Czech Republic on future trips.

I would go to CK if you already get to go to Melk, they are both Worth seeing,we stayed in both and really like them.

Surprisingly I've been to both and they are almost equally magical. A day trip on Danube through Wachau Valley was stunning, even before the fog lifted and the sun shone on the villages and castles lining the riverside. Melk and Spitz were unique and picturesque. Also CK is one of the most charming towns I've ever seen; it was uplifting just walking there en route up to the castle. Maybe these notes will help, it's a hard choice!

Since many people visit CK from Prague, which is either a very loooong day, or a single overnight, it would make sense to visit while you are nearby. OTOH, if it's over two hours each way on a bus from the ship (you didn't say), it's not such an attractive product. I agree that CK is better than sitting on the boat looking at the landscape. You didn't mention giving up any shore visits on the boat in order to take the CK excursion.
