Yup, living the dream. Vienna has also topped the Mercer Quality of Living survey for the last 8 years.

... given the high cost of housing there.

In Vienna it is still not as worse as in many other cities, but it is becoming increasingly a problem. During the past 10 years costs of housing, both rents and real estate prices, went up about 30%, by far outpacing the inflation rate.

Three Canadian cities on the list but, alas, not mine.

Norma,

My city also wasn't on the list. I'd have to declare bankruptcy if I moved to Vancouver, so that's not going to happen!

Calgary currently: Threat of snow (it's still officially summer!)...below freezing temperatures at night...today's high 3 degrees Celsius.. but hey #4 on the list!

Just returned from Vienna 2 weeks ago. It was in the high 20's to 30's (Celsius).... sigh...

Alleyo - we have a friend in Edmonton who sent us an email the other night - there was a lot of profanity in it, but the gist was..."It's %^&* snowing...there is snow on the %^&* ground"...then sent another one last night - "it's snowing again today. Enjoy your +25 weather"

Yeah, sorry, couldn't pay me enough to move to Alberta. I'll stick with my little slice of heaven in Nova Scotia.

No US cities—no surprise with the rampant self-centered winner-take-all culture that dominates. After all this list looked at healthcare for all, culture, transportation and education, among other criteria. This shows all the more reason why we need to travel in order to see how other cultures enrich the lives of the population.

NicoleP - Edmonton got it worse than us for sure. An hour after I posted that, it did actually snow. I'm not sure how Calgary ended up so high up on the list, with so many nice cities worldwide. Do they know winter here is 6-8 months of the year?!? But it can be so misleading, I came to Calgary in late January for an interview from Vancouver about 20 years ago, and it was warmer than Vancouver and sunny. People were walking around outside without coats. I knew it was one of those Chinooks that come and go, but I thought "This isn't so bad!", and ended up coming here and staying!
