We are visiting Vienna in July with our 16yr old son who would love to see an intimate, authentic ansemble/concert. I am looking for recommendations for an afternoon or early evening performance within walking distance of the centre.
What are the exact dates? Be warned, there are very few authentic music performances in the summer as the main venues are closed and the musicians are away.
We arrive in Vienna 22 July for 3 nights.
Thanks

Honestly, I didn’t see anything I would pay for.

Not many offerings during the school holidays.
Try to get acquainted with the excellent public transport to get rid of the self-imposed "in walking distance" restriction. Vienna is very safe, i.e. no problem walking on the streets or using public transport in the evening or night.
In front of the city hall, at "Rathausplatz", there is a big video wall during the summer, showing concerts and operas.
We have enjoyed afternoon concerts at various churches in the central area. You can just drop in on the day.
Yes, good point about the “walking distance” phrase. You must be willing to hop on a tram or subway to really explore Vienna. The public transportation system is highly efficient, easy to use and safe in Vienna.
