Concert in Salzburg

Hello, We are looking for concert recommendations for our evening in Salzburg on Oct. 21st. CHAT GPT is recommending Mirabell Palace as the first choice and Hohensalzburg Fortress Concert (for both the views and the music) . as the 2nd choice.. Any input on this as well as other recommendations are most appreciated!

Thank you!

I had a similar question when I was booking our Salzburg concert. I reviewed what people had to say about both and everyone seems pretty happy with each one. So, I made my decision based on where I was staying. Location. How far would I have to travel when it was over? Was it going to be late in the evening ? Did I want to be able to easily get back to my hotel? Yes, was the answer to my situation. Availability wasn't an issue for me as I booked pretty far out. If it had been, I would have felt comfortable choosing either. I haven't been, yet, so I'm hoping I made the right decision :)
Have fun!

Our concert at the Hohensalzburg Fortress Concert was wonderful. We did do the VIP package and had a lovely meal with wine sitting right at the wall with the gorgeous view! Highly recommended. The walk back at night was lovely!

The RS guidebook (I was on the My Way Alpine Europe) also listed another venue that was less touristy, I can't remember the name- sorry! But it was a matinee and only 45 minutes and a period Mozart harpsichord soloist. It was in an ornate building and just lovely..

I have done the fortress concert twice. Quite a nice atmosphere/experience. A sample listing of performance pieces can be found here: https://www.salzburghighlights.at/en/best-of-mozart-concerts/best-of-mozart-fortress-concert-21.

I have not attended a Mirabell Palace concert. The concert for Oct 21 looks interesting, though: https://www.salzburg-palace-concerts.com/concert-9054-at-21.10.2026#info. Period instruments. Hear the music the way it sounded when performed during the composers' era.

I enjoyed the Mirabell Palace concert last week. Excellent acoustics in the marble hall. Strings and oboe playing Mozart.

I went to the Date with Mozart concert in Salzburg. In my opinion, it is more like a tourist show. I went there in August, and it was Salzburg Festival at that time. The concerts at Felsenreitshule are much much better, in terms of both the quality of music and ambience. If I give 100 point to those concerts, I would only give 20 points for the Date with Mozart concert. Even the outdoor free concerts at kapitelplatz are much better. I also went to a Four Seasons concert in St. Stephen's and a Mozart Concert in Vienna State Opera. Both of them are tourist shows.

Just finished a concert at Mirabellplatz Palace. The intimacy of the venue and the wonderful acoustics made for a fabulous experience. The musicians were amazing in their presentation of Hayden and Mozart in a setting where Mozart actually performed. Exceeded expectations.
