Concert in Salzburg

Hi all! I'm seeking recommendations for a concert in Salzburg. As I understand it, there are many choices, but I would love to have any personal recommendations. Just looking for a cultural experience while visiting, nothing that is just a tourist trap (like costumed performers, let's say), just talented musicians. Thank you for your suggestions!

We enjoyed the concert at the Golden Hall in the Hohensalzburg Fortress. It is a wonderful intimate setting with outstanding musicians. We did not do the dinner, only the concert. The ensemble is amazingly talented and the program was 90 minutes. If you go to classictic.com you can get tickets and see the program. Ours included Mozart, Hayden, Schubert, Dvorak, and Strauss. This was a highlight of our trip and worth flying across the ocean for!

We enjoyed our concert at Mirabell Palace. Would highly recommend as it is very intimate and not a bad seat in the room.

I believe the Salzburg Pass gives you free entrance to a concert in the Mirabell Chapel for an intimate concert.

When I went, there was a violinist, a cellist and a pianist playing the classical composers. It was in a beautiful, small setting and you can come dress as casual as you like. If not sure you'd want to sit for a whole concert in the Cathedral, I recommend the Mirabell Chapel.

The Salzburg Cathedral does have an organ recital which I highly recommend as they play all 5-6 organs. Amazing and a good rest stop.

Of course the real thing are the concerts of the Salzburg Festspiele in August, the most important classical music festival in the world, and also the most expensive and elegant. Tickets are sold months in advance, starting in January.
As the Wiener Philharmoniker are the orchestra in residence for opera for all the month, it is not difficult to find chamber music concerts by members of the orchestra that are top level, not belonging to the festival organization are much cheaper but still more authentic that tourist concerts. Have a look at Polzer on the left side of the cathedral, a very expensive ticket agency, they maintain a list of classical music events in Salzburg.
Two main churches have full choir and orchestras most of the year; the solemn Masses with orchestra are almost all Sundays and Catholic feasts at 9am in Kapuzinerkirche and at 10am in the Cathedral. They are incredibly beautiful, and are also the authentic setting for Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven church music. Free entrance but as the tradition is very appreciated locally, you should better be there half an hour early for a bench place; and of course be respectful to the celebration. Also the organ concerts are very good.

Avoid concerts at the Festung Hohensalzburg, the fortress looming over Salzburg, if they're still offered. I was in Salzburg in 1996 and went to a chamber performance at the Festung. It was wonderful to hear a chamber concert in the fortress looming above Salzburg, but concert was definitely for tourists: The performance was middling. However, a visit to the Festung -- without the concert -- is worth the effort.

While I was there, I visited the Collegiate Church, the site where Wolfgang Mozart first performed as a small boy. The church hosts concerts. More important, it's a performance venue for the Salzburg Festival. As another respondent noted, the festival is worth going to.

A bit farther afield, Vienna is a world capital of music. I saw a performance at the Vienna State Opera (Staatsoper Wien) in 2015. That was definitely worth seeing. Vienna and Salzburg aren't far apart.

Thank you for the replies! It has helped me to narrow down the selections. I'll post once we've made our choice!
