coffee?

So seems that coffee houses in Vienna are the deal? (not like in AMS haha)

Anyway, I do not normally drink coffee, but in Spain I had a few cafe con leches and I really liked them! Made me feel all fancy and European, haha! What coffee should I order in Vienna?

Thanks!!

The Aida cafe chain, while not the best coffee, has a very useful menu which describes all the usual types in detail for newbies, including diagrams to show the measure size and the proportions of water/milk/cream/etc.

If you like cafe con leche, you'll want a melange in Vienna
Go to Cafe Diglas, near St. Stephens

Wiener melange ...nearly identical to cappuccino ...espresso with foamed milk on the top.

We were in the Tirol for 10 days. While our afternoon coffee was enjoyable, the kuchen and torten were even more memorable.

the melanges in Vienna seem a bit sweeter and creamier than cappuccinos in Italy but very similar -- if you like any coffee drinks, you will probably like those. And of course hot chocolate is always an option; they are pretty much always available wherever coffee is available.

My experience in Vienna , has been that a mélange may sometimes be served with schlagobers ( whipped cream ) as opposed to foamed milk . Sometimes , the waiter will ask for your choice , sometimes , not . If it is important to you , specify when ordering . At home , I use foamed milk when making my daily coffee ( with a Swiss made espresso machine ) , but in Vienna , I throw caution to the wind , and have it with schlagobers , after all , you only live once .
