Clothing to carry in last week of October

Hi

Iam visiting Austria and Prague in tbe last week of October I.e. Oct 23 to Nov 4 along with my 3 year old daughter. Would be visiting Vienna, Prague, Salzburg And Hallstatt in that order. Please suggest what type of clothing would we carry for during the day travel and night walks. Would it be very cold at nights venture out.

Thanks
Rahul

MrsEB's recommendation is what I would suggest, too. Looking at the monthly averages often cited in magazine articles and guidebooks is really, really inadequate because it doesn't give you any sense of the extremes you may experience. You should be able to get fairly decent temperature estimates a day or two before you depart. That may help you prune your clothing list a bit. Like others here, I've found projections about rain to be less reliable than expected temperatures.

Mid-October is usually the transitional period in Europe, so yes, monthly averages will conceal a very large standard deviation... meaning, it won't be very helpful. Added to that, the weather will likely be quite a bit cooler in Hallstatt than in the cities.

I second the advice of the previous poster.

Mid October can see some early snow in lower elevations, but also Golden Fall (Indian Summer). I recommend the usual... layers and water proof shoes and a pair of gloves will be handy. If you are not used to a four season climate dress warmer. Snow on the Alps is already accumulating in the higher elevations. You should have white peaks at Salzburg And Hallstatt.
