Christmas Markets in Vienna on a Monday

According to what I've read, Monday's in Vienna are slow/closed during the year. But is this the case during the holidays? We're traveling via train from Milan to Prague and thought it'd be fun to stop for the day in Vienna and meander the markets. It'll be the Monday of Christmas week, the 22nd I believe and my fingers are crossed they'll be open :)

Thank you Laura :). You couldn't have provided anything more perfect! And some are open Christmas day, too!

Where did you read that? There is no culture here of things slowing down on Mondays - in fact, it is always a very busy day as shops are closed on Sundays and people need to re-stock.

As for Christmas Markets, the link provided above does not include all markets. This list is more comprehensive. I would highly recommend the markets at Karlsplatz, Altes AKH and Spittelberg if you want something authentic. The "main" market at the Rathaus is a zoo and total chaos with most items imported from China- best viewed from a distance, in my opinion.

Take Emily's advice on the markets. Rathausplatz is mobbed with tourists...not fun. The Spittleberg was my fav.

The warnings you've heard about Mondays are because, as in many other European countries, many museums and heritage sites close that day every week. Shops don't.
