Christmas Holiday in Austria

We discovered the hard way that Germany closes most museums, shops and restaurants from midday on Christmas Eve until 12/27. Does anyone know if Austria has the same holiday schedule. We are planning a holiday river cruise that ends in Budapest on 12/22. We plan to spend the following week traveling by train from Budapest to Munich and would like to spend some time in Vienna and Salzberg and end in Munich after the 27th. Do shops, museums and restaurants stay open during this time or will we be visiting the outside of the Schonbrunn?

We were in Salzburg in 2017 -- the big Christmas market near the cathedral was open through late in the day on December 24. Vienna celebrates New Year's Eve big time and their markets are open through that holiday. Getting meals may be a little hard, though, but your hotel can help.

Going again this December for our third Christmas trip.

The majority of Christmas markets closes on December 23rd. Most shops close early on December 24th, and all are closed on the 25th and 26th, both of which are public holidays. For museums and other sights you need to check their indivudual schedule.

So you aren't going to spend much time in Budapest at the end of the boat ride? Shame. Well, at least the markets will be open the 23rd and part of the day on the 24th and again on the 27th through the end of the year if you do hang around. The food stalls do close after the 24th, but the market remains open.
