Choosing the best Salt Mine tour.

Hello everyone!
I am going to be in Austria the beginning of September. I have been reading about a couple of the Salt Mine tours. I am looking at either Hallein or Alpenstrasse. I am looking for fun and adventure. Any suggestions?

We went to the Hallein mine and it was great. Unique because you can go into Germany and the boat ride on the underground lake.

Our family with teens just visited Salzburg and took a half day trip by postbus to Salzbergwerk in Berchtesgaden. We all enjoyed the tour, learning all about the mining of salt and had a lot of laughs. We wore headsets to translate the tour to English. We are glad we did the tour. Have fun!

We did the Hallein tour last June. Lots of "fun", minimal "adventure". Riding the wooden slides from one level to another is really enjoyable. The underground boat is a little gimmicky, but still a lot of fun. Well worth the visit. And you will learn a lot about Salzburg on the tour. The little town of Hallein is also worth a visit. The Franz Gruber museum is there, and also some fun streets to stroll and enjoy a gelato.

We just took the tour of the Salzbergwerks in Berchtesgaden last week and it was really fun and interesting! They have a great audio tour that goes along with your ticket if you don't understand German. It's a fun mix of sliding from one level to another (you can walk if you don't want to slide), a boat ride underground, and succinct yet interesting displays and videos about how they mine the salt. We has a great time!
