central Europe trip for 2 weeks

Hi Guys,

Hope to hear back soon from lovely people out there.

It's better to say how many nights you are staying. For Vienna, Munich, Prague and Budapest you need at least 3 full days each that means 4 nights. Innsbruck would be OK with one or two full days. There are many kinds of different city cards. Some of them covering museums, palaces, some of them (more expensive) covering also public transport. You get full information in Visitor centers and then you can decide what kind of card you want. I am aware of some discount railroad card for the Czech Republic but you won't be there long enough to take advantage of that. In C.R. (and maybe somewhere else) you can take advantage of group ticket discount. Excursions you mean day trips, right? From Prague castles Karlstejn or Konopiste or medieval Kutna Hora with silver mines.

Yes Ofcourse i mean nights, n i was wondering if I should add one more night to Prague and remove a night away from Innsbruck. the basic idea of staying more at Innsbruck is that I can avail a full week complimentary stay at Innsbruck. N By excursions i mean day trips, yes you are right in this sense.

City sightseeing cards are different for each city; they are rarely a really necessary purchase. I recommend stopping at the local tourist office in each city to pick up the details and get their advice. There is not anything else similar to the Vorteils card. I would not stay 4 days in Innsbruck unless you do plan to make some excursions from there.

I used to poopoo the Budapest Card, but then someone convinced me to actually look up the benefits and do an analysis. For a first time visitor with a fairly general set of interests it can pay for its self. A 72hour Budapest Card is 8790ft a 72 hour Travel Card (public transportation access only) is 4150ft. So you have to save about $19 using the Budapest Card to break even. that's $6.33 a day. Very doable depending on your interests. http://budapest-card.com/en/

vikas,

when it comes to "city cards" its best to do the math. since you know where you will be going, you can look at each cities' card and add up the savings and see if its "worth it" to you and your pocket book. Sometimes they include public transportation, sometimes not.

I bought the Budapest Card since it penciled out for me. As far as Vienna and Prague, they didnt.

Happy trails.

Hop on Hop off buses are private companies and not part of the Vienna public transportation system, so, no, they are not covered. If you are talking about regular city buses, then, yes, it is covered.

The HOHO buses in Budapest aren't a terrible idea but you can do nearly as good and have a lot more fun in the process by using the trams and walking.

If you are going from Munich airport to Munich Hbf (central station ), then take S-Bahn 8. The HoHo Bus can be boarded at eh Bahnhofsvorplatz, (directly opposite of the train station on the Bayerstrasse side), not far from the Karstadt dept, store.

To find train routes and schedules, use the Bahn (German Rail) website http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en, following Rick's tutorial: http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/online-schedules

I just Googled your Budapest hotel, and worldinbetween is right - it's miles from anything you want to see. Even if there is bus service, you'll spend hours getting to places of interest. I'd do whatever it takes to stay somewhere closer to the center, on the Pest side if possible.

Thanks Julie and Harold, i have already asked my agent to give a centrally located hotel not only in Budapest but Also in Munich. rest of them seem to be okay. Actually the Problem comes here, i am an Indian passport holder and schengen countries have got a higher rate of visa rejection if we apply by ourselves but If we put our application through a travel agent then they give visa without much problem and the agency always mediate for those people who book their flight and hotels from them. this is where they play tricks sometimes And give you hotels which are not good enough or poorly located. thanks guys.
