Hello - I'd like to rent a car on September 7th to go from Salzburg to Hallstatt. Anyone have a recommendation for a car rental company? I'm not having much luck. Would like to leave early (6:30 AM?), so might have to pick up at the airport. Thanks!

I always rent thru AutoEurope or Hertz--whichever is cheaper.
You'd probably have to pickup the car the night before if you're trying to get going at 6:30 A.M. I doubt the airport rentals would be open that early as it's a very small airport.
Always try to get rentals in center city or non-airport locations. Airport rentals always come with high taxes and/or extra charges--expensive. You can drop them off at airports without extra charges, however.

We will be doing the same trip just a few days before you! We looked at CarRentals.com and booked with Avis. We are picking up and dropping off at (or close to) the train station in Salzburg. This is much more convenient than the airport. Hope you find something.

Will you be staying in Hallstatt, or just visiting there for the day? As I recall, you won't be able to drive into the town, so will have to park in Hallstatt Lahn, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the main hotels.

I would seriously consider the train. Just over two hours and you get to enjoy the scenery along the way. And probably cheaper than renting.
