Car rental return

We are renting a car in Salzburg to go to stay at Schloss Fernsteinsee in Nassereith and explore the area. After this we will be continuing on to Zurich, and using train transportation for the remainder of our trip. We'd like to return the car in Austria to avoid higher rental car costs and then take the train to Zurich. Innsbruck will obviously have rental car returns and the train station, but it is an hour in the opposite direction. Is this the best way? I was wondering if there is somewhere along the train route west of Innsbruck we could return a car and catch the train. Is this a good option, or should we just plan on driving the hour east to Innsbruck?

Or, any different options to suggest?
Thanks :)

Bregenz, in western Austria, is a city where you can return the car. www.AutoEurope.com brokers car rentals for the big agencies and you can reserve a car to pick up in Salzburg and drop it off in Bregenz through AutoEurope. It’s then about a 90-minute train ride from Bregenz to Zurich.
With a car, you could also quickly check out Berchtesgaden National Park and the Konigsee— just 45 minutes from Salzburg— en route to Nassereith.
Have a great trip!

Thanks, Kenko! That is exactly what I was looking for. I just didn't know what the best town to start checking would be.

We will definitely look at checking out the Berchtesgaden park, too.

Appreciate the info!
