Car rental in Salzburg

Hi !

We will be in Salzburg for 3 nights in couple of days ( saturday, sunday and monday). At first we though using public transport only but now we plan to rent a car sunday and monday.

Questions :

1) since we havent plan to rent a car we have not made an international driving permit before our start. Is that a problem ( we are from Canada) ?

2) is there any locator open sunday ?

3) could anyone can show me a good locator ?

4) we have 2 kids (4 and 8) I guess wewill need to rent a car seat for the youngest one.

Thanks

I'm just wondering why you want a car in Salzburg. If you have daytrips planned, then fine. But if it's just for the city, a car would be useless. The Altstadt, which is what most tourists come to visit, is rather small (about the size of a large shopping mall) and mostly car-free. Although parking is available, it isn't plentiful.

To answer at least one of your questions...

1) If you rent the car in Austria, yes, you will need an international driving permit. The agent will not release the car to you without one. You can obtain it from an ÖAMTC office (the Austrian version of CAA). However, you will also need to supply a passport-sized photo of yourself.

I think it will be difficult to find any that are near the train station open on Sunday. If memory serves, try at the airport. Sixt?

I've taken a bus from Salzburg to Mondsee and St. Gilgen (and ultimately to Bad Ischl and Hallstatt), a train to Werfen, and a bus to Berchtesgaden. I would decide where I am going before thinking I needed a car.
