We have five days to travel from Vienna to Salzburg to Munich and back to Vienna. Better to rent a car or take the train?

When you drive the driver does not get to enjoy the trip as they will be concentrating on driving.
The train lets everyone relax & enjoy the journey.

I find the train to be so much more relaxing. No city traffic, no parking, no getting lost.

I would not waste the money on a rental car and paying for gas by the liter. Take the train.

A car could allow you to meander through other small towns along the way, but I don't think you really have time for that.
