I am only in Vienna for 2 1/2 days(3 nights). I want to bike in the Wachau region one day, see Schonbrunn, do the Vienna Wine Hiking that is only offered at that time, and then walk around Vienna seeing the outsides of buildings, visiting markets, and taking time for coffee and pastries. Do you think this is possible? Can I combine Schonbrunn and the wine hike in one day. The wine hike goes till 6 . Thanks for your help.
If you buy your tickets in advance for Schonbrunn so that you can go in for the first entrance of the day into the palace, you can probably do both. There are several different ways to visit the palace - some are partial tours and some take you through the whole thing - 40+ rooms if I remember correctly. Takes about 45 - 60 minutes if you take the longer one. Don't waste time on the orangery. I think it's worth it to go up to the Gloriet...save time by taking the little train that runs around the grounds...it's a heck of a walk to get up there but the view is fantastic and you can get something to eat or drink in the beautiful cafe. You really can take as much or as little time as you want at Schonbrunn - the grounds are quite large but not in the best condition so you won't miss too much if you choose not to venture out under the trees to some of the more far-reaching sections.
I don't know where the wine hike starts from so you'll have to judge how long it takes to get from the palace to wherever the starting point is for that.
What is the Vienna Wine Hiking you are referring to? It is very easy to do this yourself.
Emily this is the Vienna Wine Walk which only happens on the weekend we will be there. http://www.wien.info/en/shopping-wining-dining/wine/wine-trail
If you know where Schonbrunn is in relation to this maybe it is doable.
I will be at the Vienna wine Hike on Sunday September 27.
