Cab airport to city center (St. STephans)

We have an apartment near St. Stephans and they offer a car pick up at the airport for 37 Euro. How does that compare with just getting a cab from the official queue. I know these things vary from place to place and we have not been to Vienna before and are unfamiliar with their cab system.

Sounds pretty reasonable for a large European city. Go for it.

We're staying at the hotel across from St. Stephans and just planning to take the CAT to the U-bahn Stephensplatz stop. Depending on your number of people & qty of luggage, you might want the car pick up service.

What is a good site to plot public transport in Wien? We might just do that.

Would like to know or know how to figure out the normal cab fare from the airport so I can judge the offer from the apartment people.

My daughter and I were just in Vienna last month. Our hotel was near Schwedenplatz- not far at all from Stephanplatz. Our hotel arranged a driver for us from airport - 28 Euros. We met the driver right in Arrivals Hall- it could not have been simpler.

So given that I'd assume your offer for 37 Euros is a bit high, although don't know how many are in your party.

I like to use https://www.rome2rio.com as my starting point to work out transit routes and cost.
I believe it is quite accurate- and actually it does show $40-45 taxi from airport to Stephansplatz U-Bahn which is pretty close to 37 Euros.

thanks. Very helpful. Since we are going to an apartment there is some virtue in using the car they arrange. I normally just take public transport or make my own arrangements but I don't know this city at all or its transport so wanted to assess whether that was a reasonable charge. I know in Paris that hotels routinely cite ridiculously overcharged car prices for cars they arrange. It does not appear that this place is crazy out of line.

Private cars can be about 35-40 euros to the city. CAT (City Airport Train) only goes to Landstrasse and then you can switch to Ubahn. You can take the commuter trains (Schnell) train that is cheaper but harder to figure out. This is the best site for figuring out the public transprtation. Use the route planner: http://www.wienerlinien.at

The CAT does not go to Stephansplatz, as incorrectly described above. The CAT is also overpriced and you might as well take the S7 (see below) or a taxi. If there are two of you, than the CAT would actually cost more than a pre-booked taxi (see below).

37 Euro is too high, in my opinion. I always book a cab through Red Cab, which will be 29 Euro. www.red-cab.at.

The cheapest way to your hotel from the airport would be to take the S7 train (not confusing at all, as incorrectly indicated) for 4.40 Euro. This train will make several stops in Vienna - you want to get off at Landstrasse/Wien Mitte and from there take the U3 to Stephansplatz.
