I'll be staying just outyside the ring in Vienna near the Freud Museum. My hotel does not include breakfast so I must find some on my own. I don't need a huge English breakfast or a hearty American Steak and Eggs breakfast. Eggs, a pastry and coffee will do me well. Any suggestions for a good breakfast place near or in the ring?
It is very unusual for Viennese to have a hot breakfast. Usually it’s just coffee and a roll. Loads of bakeries provide just that. Anker, Der Mann, Strock are on nearly every corner.
For something that includes eggs, you’ve got to dig deeper. Looking at the area near the Freud Museum, here are some ideas:
Porzellan, Servitengasse 2
Plain, Berggasse 25
Florentin 1090, Berggasse 8
Cafe Stein, Währinger Strasse 6-8
1683 Bagels, Währinger Strasse 12
Maybe if you name your hotel, I can be more exact.
The Aida chain of pastry/coffee shops in Vienna is really good. Yes, it's a chain. But there seem to be a fair number of locals who eat there. Coffee and excellent strudel -- my perfect breakfast!
I would take your situation as an excuse to run wild at pastry shops. Expensive, but tops is the famed Vienna institution www.demel.com/en/demel/
Vienna is known for coffee shops, so you probably can’t go wrong with most of them. Cafe Demel is an institution and one you should try (we liked it despite the crowd). My family preferred Cafe Landtmann - great coffee and pastries with fun outdoor seating:

Coffeehouses in Vienna are really an afternoon thing. It’s not where you get a substantial breakfast.
