Is there a ferry or boat that can be used as transportation from Vienna to Budapest instead of train?

No.
Only river cruises, mostly starting in The Netherlands or Germany, go this route.
But there are three-day cruises departing from Vienna as well.

Wmt1, is this something that died with COVID? There used to be a ferry sailing from Vienna to Budapest that took about 6 hours and was an option instead of train or bus. I'm pretty sure it was still available in 2018 or 2019.

I "googled" this and there was an article dated Oct 23 that said there was a boat company that did these trips.

Mahart used to run a hydrofoil Vienna to Budapest. But no more. I had a friend who took it, and she said loud and rough. All inside. No fun at all.
