We will be in Vienna for 4 days, and getting married there also, and then going to Paris for 2 nights. We are then off to England for a week. Limited time, so we need a faster mode of travel. We are thinking flying, but not sure which airlines. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Lynn
Thank you George! I will look at those.
You should find some pretty affordable flights with those search engines, cheaper and faster than train. See also general tips at http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/budget-flights.
Thanks Laura. I will check those out.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I am assuming that you and your fiance are both non-Austrian. I also assume that you have done your homework and already made an appointment for the marriage. This needs to be done well in advance. In addition, Austria is very bureaucratic and requires quite a bit of paperwork for this. It is also recommended that you also receive an apostile, otherwise your marriage will likely not be recognized outside of Austria. If you are from the US, this might be helpful -
The only budget carrier from Vienna to Paris is Niki Air. See: http://www.flyniki.com/prepage.php
There are many cities in Europe that are without many budget air carriers. They just don't go from some cities to other cities.
And by train, Vienna to Paris is a long, long train ride. Before I'd take that journey, I'd fly EasyJet from Vienna to Rome for a day and then on to Paris.
Thank you all! We booked a Ryanair flight from Bratislava which is about an hour east of Vienna in Slovakia. So with a train to Bratislava, Ryanair flight to Paris Beauvais and Aeroport shuttle to paris, this is the least expensive trip from Vienna to paris.
Lynn,
You're wasting a lot of time traveling to Bratislava, when there's loads of non-stop carriers between Vienna and different airports in Paris. Plus, Ryan Air is brutal, you need to print your boarding passes BEFORE you get to the airport or it's usually another 50Euro to print at the airport. Luggage restrictions are very strict as well.
Vueling is a great airline, Air Berlin, Air France, British Airways, Austrian Airlines and loads others fly direct for around $150-200 USD. Eventhough you've already booked Ryan Air, it's a nightmare, so just book direct and save yourself time, money, and hassle.
Hi,
Keep in mind that when it says Paris Beauvais, the town of Beauvais, nice and charming as it is, historical too, is located ca one hr north of Paris, roughly half way between Paris and Amiens. The train from Gare du Nord gets you to Beauvais. I spent an afternoon there from Paris Nord.
I realise the time constraint you're under going from Paris to Vienna. The night train option is also available, Paris Est to Munich Hbf on the CNL arrives a bit after 0700, change to the Railjet, you'll be in Vienna in 4+ hrs., ie, shortly before noon.
